I totally agree, Jessica. If I want an action game, I will pop in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and enter fifteen cheat codes. As for my beloved Silent Hill series, regular action sequences will ruin its distinctiveness. Moreover, these American developers are ungodly awful character/monster designers. When I saw the first magazine scans published, I sincerely thought it was a joke! Sadly not, though. Apparently, only the now defunct Konami Computer Entertainment Japan knew how to create an unconditional Silent Hill game that would captivate us fans. So is the Silent Hill I love finished?

Where's Jessica? XD Who's Jessica? hu? hu?

Cheesy Cheesy

Well, you questioned yourself about the future of the series...
Maybe, I guess, let the series end will be a very good choice...

This just because I think it's better live of the memories of such masterpiece as Silent Hill 1 and 2 than let the series continue forever creating disappontable games just to abuse of the power that surround the Silent Hill name.

Really I thought I was dying when I first saw that Banana Head thing from Silent Hill V...
What's That thing? O_O Is that Silent Hill?

Kinda the same impressions I had when I saw the first awful videos and pictures of Origins.

However, Brandon, I truly hope you would leave your shareable preconception about Silent Hill Origins and force yourself to try to take what's good in this game,'cause I really think there's something good, in the Silent Hill way.

I can hope as I advance in the game something good will come of it. But now, Origins does not exemplify Silent Hill for me.

Jessica's display name here is Xuchilbara.

It makes the game a hellva alot less scary if you can effeciently defend yourself against the monsters. Furthermore, the fact that normally you play as an 'average ' type character makes the game more realistic and realtable in alot of senses.

I agree. They suck.  Its very cliche American horror. The very type that a vehetematly despise because well, we get alot of it over here and its not scary. Tongue

I remember one guy saying some critizisms for the production of SH V and he noted how well 3 was, even though they re-hashed a bunch of ideas. One main reason is 3's connection w/ 1 AND 2. (mostly one) But with V's supposed connection w/ 2 and them making it very actiony, it makes my hope dwindle.

One big thing thats pissing me off is the Otherworld thing. Its not that they are taking cues from the movie.. Its that remember in 2 the shift was unnoticible and it was as if reality was tricking you? (LM alludes to this) And the game itself tricked James and the player alot? V just doesn't have that 'feel'. We see the otherworld all the time.. How about for once, again, making it completely unoticiable and us feeling the psychological effects of that. I would like to see not a clone of 2, but something as good as that and thought provoking.

Maybe some day they'll go back to it.. You never now. But right now, I have died alittle on the inside..  Usually from Konami, exceptionally well games. Especially against some major force like Capcom, but this might be our RE4.

The Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, Inc. ("Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo", "Konami TYO" or "KCET") "company" does not exist anymore. Back in March or April of 2005, the KONAMI corporation (parent company; based in Japan) merged the Konami TYO video game development studio into Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd., for whatever reason (likely a corporate fiscal explanation behind this). I was the only Silent Hill Web author to report this when it happened. Now the development studio, formerly KCET, essentially just had its name changed. The same people were employed, (at the time) current and future projects were carried over, and all prior copyrights were transferred. Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd., which is based in Japan, not to be confused with Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. (the American division), does develop video games in-house. Why they did not assume the development of neither Silent Hill: Origins or Silent Hill 5 really puzzles me. Frankly too, it upsets me.

The GameRankings average review score for this game was 80%, which was more than SH4 and only a few points less than the other three games.

Brandon, your critique of the game’s platform and authors could have been made without actually playing the game. What specifically is so bad about the gameplay, plot, etc?

Does the plot build upon and solve questions from SH1, or is it mostly tangent material?

They reviewed Silent Hill: Origins plainly as a run of the mill game; not under the acclimatization of a dire Silent Hill fan like me.  As a standalone game, not bearing the Silent Hill name, I suppose it is an average title, but fully acknowledging this is officially a Silent Hill installment makes me want to hurl.

From the beginning, when you pick up Alessa, I initially thought it was a bag of charcoal. No kidding. That is how outright appalling this game is.

I am having a difficult time following this Americanized horror story. I am only a third way through the game but sincerely despise it to this point. I cannot even tolerate to play it more just to finish it.

So only Asianized horror is good? Theres something here that isn't right, the SH games were made to be like America. I think Yamaoka commented by saying something in a interview about how "American" they were trying to make the game. I agree, I do not like Americanized horror, at least when they take Japanese movies and make them "american". And likewise, there were Asian horror in SH that was taking inspiration from, especially in 4. But, we all know the major references and cites that they use as influences on Silent Hill is American. Hell, SH1 is a rip off of the Omen & especially Rosemary's baby. (Which is a damn good movie btw.) And now you finally[/b] think the SH games are becoming too "American"? Undecided

So if an Asian makes it, its all of the sudden gold? Yeah. Thats why we have crappy ass Resident Evil games with plotholes out the wozzy.

Well, I think what is being meant here is that the Japanese used many American culture icons in the horror realm, and I'm glad, because I enjoy being able to know what the references in the game mean. However, Silent Hill was still a Japanese-influenced game. After all, it WAS made by the Japanese. Having the Silent Hill series move to American hands, well, didn't do the best thing for the series because it made it look cheesy.

So, no. Just because a game is Asian-made does not mean it is the best, but the Japanese take on American horror is what the original Silent Hill fans love, and they find it a travesty that the newer games are not following this principle.

I really have to agree with you Brandon, Origins just didn't cut it.  Not a hater, I'm more than welcome to give any new SH game a chance but Origins was. . .bad.  I still to this day don't understand why they felt the need to completely ignore the day of the ritual except from the fire itself, and continue to explain Travis and his DEEMUNZ.

There's no torch, no radio, no fog in The Room...

Since when do these things make a SH game?  They add to the experience certainly but a SH title can live without them, surely?

Henry Twonshend is, to me an empty box, and even if someone says that's a good thing because you can better get in his shoes I disagree, 'cause I was in the shoes of Harry, James and Heather, even if they were extremely characterized.

Henry's role as the Reciever of Wisdom didn't require him to be a comedian.  He's a vessel for Joshep's information and an avatar the player can control through these worlds.  His reactions were realistic considering who he was.  Now Travis, on the otherhand, was just boring.  Dull.  Typical.  Blergh.

And that's not all.
The creatures are awfull and not in the good sense of it.
Patients burping? Monkey-man figures? Wheelchairs?

Right, because Lying Figure and Pyramid Head rip-offs, disabled cattle and random devil beasts are the way to go for SH?    Wink

And there's no atmosphere at all! Zero!

I certainly felt a lot more atmosphere exploring the apartment world than exploring Helen's nut house.  But that's just me and that's just you.   Grin
